Important information on selecting a DJ

Even if you don't select me, hiring a professional disc jockey is a great way to satisfy everyone's musical interests because of a DJ's flexibility of music styles and actual artist's sound. It can be difficult to distinguish between the amateur and a professional (until the night of your reception) if you do not ask detailed questions about their service. You want someone with the adequate sound and lighting equipment and experience. Here are some things to consider and some good questions to ask.

1. Will they entertain, have games or just play music?

2. Will they play what you and your fiancée like?

3. Will they take requests from your guests at the party?

4. Do they have a variety of music styles, especially what you like?

5. Do they own professional equipment or a home stereo? Will their system provide sound for the size of room?

6. How will they dress? A tux or blue jeans?

7. How much experience do they have performing as a wedding disc jockey? Are they familiar with the necessary traditions, procedures and etiquette for a wedding reception?

8. Do they have a light show or sound only? Have them visually describe it to you.

9. Do they need a deposit and how much? What method of payment do they offer and when do you need to pay the balance off?

10. Do they have a contract? A contract can help avoid honest miscommunication. What happens if the $250 price becomes $500 or the DJ starts at 8 P.M. instead of 5 P.M. or the DJ does not show up at all? You need something in writing stating the essentials.
