On one cold night in 1999, Chris Brown a.k.a I ROC Omega found himself in the parking lot of an abandoned apartment building in his hometown of Anchor City, Alaska. The local rap assassin, who has shared stages with the likes of 112, Outkast and DMX, was moonlighting as a street pharmacist and meeting a potential new client referred by an associate. This transaction would almost cost him his life.

As he stepped out of the vehicle, he saw seven red dots spread across his body. Reality hit him hard. It was a set up. With a Mac 11 leaning against the back of his head, the burgeoning emcee was forced to lie on the floor inside a vacant unit. He was asked one question, "Are you ready to die?" Although his heart was saying "No" the weed he smoked earlier spoke with conviction, "Do what you gotta do." Instantly, I ROC felt a heavy blow to the back of his head before darkness swallowed him whole.

Awakening in the hospital was a miracle. He suffered severe injuries to his eyes, both cheekbones broken, a broken nose, busted lip, numerous stitches to the head and acute nerve damage. Recovery was no small feat. The injured rapper endured numerous surgeries, including receiving two titanium steel plates to replace the broken cheekbones, operations on both eyes and physical therapy to restore feeling in the left side of his body. With his final release from the hospital I ROC was now focused on two things: recovery and his rap career.

It's been six long years and I ROC recounts the brutal reality of living in Anchorage City with his solo debut entitled Weight of My World, a Black Ice Entertainment release, distributed by Universal Records. This autobiographical effort has 17 blazin' tracks, with production that reflects the ghetto superstar's mass appeal. The talented emcee spits fire on the album and gives music fans the proper introduction to Alaska's hip hop scene.

Standout songs include the lead singles "Like a Bailer," which describes the truth about urban dwelling in Alaska and the sexy teaser "Gimme That Number," featuring MC Lyte, a catchy joint that shows how around-the-way girls can't resist thugs. "Leanin' Back," a caddy ridin' anthem, features Devin The Dude and D -Red talkin' trash and having a good time. "10 Is a Dime," featuring Granddaddy Souf, is a club banger letting all those dime wannabe's know they might have a chance. The west coast heavy hitter, "How We Get Down," showcases I ROC trading verses with Kurupt and Roscoe. "Lookin' At My Bottle" has the cunning wordsmith poppin' bottles and acting a fool with hip hop veteran Erick Sermon.

I ROC's lyrical prowess is evident in his love for legendary emcees like Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, Run DMC, NWA, Ice Cube and Snoop. Weight of My World illustrates the charasmatic rapper's diverse taste in hip hop music. "When people hear this debut, I wanted it to be where they don't know where I'm comin' from. I wanted it to be an
